Addendum to Today's Post

Holy crap...I can't believe I forgot to include this in the earlier post, but I HAD AN RBF MEET-UP this past weekend! They are so much fun!!!

At any rate, Troy and I met Jim aka Eagle Point Runner last Sunday morning for breakfast at Cracker Barrell. He was passing through (with a friend) on his way back to Birmingham and we have tried several times to do the meet-up thing, and alas! this time we were successful.

I've seen his pics on his blog, and now after meeting him in person I think he looks just like the person on his blog, but when we first met I didn't think so...not so much. It's weird. He said the same thing on his blog, even though I didn't know what he looked like, I could have picked him out of anyone that walked up, but he still looked different than his blog. That makes absolutely no sense, so I'll just move on with the story.

It was a fun, fast hour filled with chatting and eating. Troy and I had to get to church and they had to get back on the road. Wish it could have been longer! Next time! It was funny because Troy and Jim's friend starting chatting right off the bat about work, golf, etc. And then finally (I think at the same time) Jim and i completely changed the subject to running...guess that's how addicts do it! It was a lot of fun getting to know each other, although I felt like I had known him for quite some time now! It wasn't until after we left that I realized that it was just about a year ago when I started reading his blog and the tradegy that was going on his life, and for a second it made me sad that I hadn't even thought to see how he was hanging in there during the holidays. Bad friend :( At any rate, I know that he has a great friend now, and so I'm sure that made the holidays great!

Anyway, it was fun and I can't wait to do it again. He gave us a great invite to come to Birmingham and run the Mercedes Half, but I don't think we're going to be able to make it. I'm TDY most of the month of February and with school I just think I might be cutting myself short. Troy and I have decided to definitely plan on next year though!

Thanks for the comment! I really want to be good about posting more often. Turns out there's no fracture! Just need to work on strengthening some tendons. Hopefully that will do the trick. I'm excited to follow your training for your next marathon!

I thought it was odd that you hadn't mentioned meeting up with Jim since I read about it on Jim's blog a couple of days ago. I'd like to tell you that forgetting important stuff gets better as you get older, but I don't seem to remember it working that way.

Sounds like you, Troy and Jim had a great time.

Amy . . . We had a ball Sunday morning meeting you and Troy. My buddy Larry couldn't believe that I was meeting a couple of "strangers" out of the blue for breakfast. He was a little apprehensive, thinking that we might get kidnapped for some weird, unspoken, kinky purposes . . . too bad we weren't! Hard to tell non-RBFers how things work and how you can be friends with folks you've never met. Our community is like a quilt that is sewn together by the common thread of long runs, tempo runs, fartleks, and sweat. I am glad to be a part of that community and I'm honored to be your friend.

BTW . . . I am doing fine. Christmas was a little uncomfortable but with Susan's help, I made it through and I'm looking forward to another great year!

Glad you didnt kidnap anyone and torture them!

I have met a few bloggers and other runners as I travel around. It is always nice to meet fellow runners.

Come do the Flying Pig half marathon in May with a group of us. It will be fun.
