Cold Coffee

First things first...I got up on my day off at 7:30am to catch up on blogs and only made it through the "Ms" on my blogs I normally read...how do you people do it??? I think I'm going to try and split my time...one day read blogs "A through M" and the next day read "N through Z"...that's what i'm gonna try to do anyway.

2nd things, well...second: I had my one and only visit with the physical therapist yesterday. He gave me a 12 week program to follow. And before anyone else beats Troy to it: Yes, I am in rehab and yes it is a 12 week (not step) program. Haha...laugh it up funny boy. At any rate, I've got 2 solid pages of leg/ankle/foot exercises to do and can start run/walking in 5 weeks. But, for now I can ride a stationary bike. Yahoo! Never ever thought I'd be excited about that...but then I never thought I'd be excited about run/walking either. So, this afternoon I'm gonna scoot over to the gym and ride my little heart out. I can't wait to sweat....I've got a pretty structured "rehab" program that I'm going to try and type up...why? Because I'm OCD like that. I like schedules and I like them even more when they are all pretty in Excel...it's my rehab, okay?

Oh, I've got an appointment with the "other" doctor on 21 July to check out my osteopenia. In the meantime, I've played doctor and tried to research all i could on this new diagnosis. Mainly what i've been trying to figure out is what to eat, or more importantly what NOT to eat. And I was surprised, shocked and a little elated to find out that coffee AND chocolate are calcium inhibitors. I've been looking for a reason to give up both of those, and eureka! I've found it. Today is day #2 without my am coffee. I'm having tea with a little honey and cream. The good thing about it (other than it won't inhibit my calcium absorbtion) is that when it gets cold it still tastes good. All you coffee drinkers know what I'm talking about...when your coffee's been sitting there for an hour and you accidently take a swallow...YUCK! But I was a grouch all day yesterday...not sure if that was the lack of coffee or the fact that I was just bored all day...not really sure. At any rate, I'm a tea drinker...for now.

The chocolate thing is a little more difficult and coupled by the fact that Troy was shoving Raisinets in my mouth last night at the movies, yelling quietly "Now shove a handful of popcorn in your mouth...it's sooooooooooo good." Okay, so I'll take one for the team and mix the sweet with salty (and OMG if you've never tried it, it is a must-do before you kick the bucket). But no more....I'm officially becoming chocolate-free....and coffee-free....

Now I really do sound like I'm on a 12 step program....

Happy Running!

I feel for you. Luckily I was never a coffee drinker, but it's been pretty tough giving up my pop! I try to stay away from it altogether, but don't succeed often enough. At least when I fall off the wagon, it is usually with diet, caffeine free stuff. I actually have a lot of really good info from my classes. If you want to email me with your email, I can scan it and email it to you. Or fax it. I know how confusing it can be to sort through all the info!! Don't let it overwhelm you. One thing at a time!

Hey!! Good luck with the chocolate. I've never been a coffee drinker, but giving up chocolate might be a problem. Can you sub the chocolate with something like....jelly beans? Or gummy bears? Hmmmmm, gummy bears are good.

(un)fortunately both caffeine and chocolate make my blood sugar go nuts and my disposition turn to, um...crap.

Life without CHOCOLATE??! I can NEVER do that. I tried that during Lent and was a B**** by the end of it. I never drank coffee because of the taste. But I am better for it.

Good luck on your coffee/chocolate- free diet. I have to agree with you on the tea - have you ever had chai tea? The best, hot or cold!

Good luck with the therapy!

The urges for coffee and the grumpiness will go away soon enough. It's just your mind screaming for CAFFINE. This phase does pass. Tell Troy to lay off the raisonetes. They aren't any good for either one of you and you don't need the temptation around and if he really loved you he would give up chocolate with you (guys respond well to this sort of threat).

As for therapy, why can't you start water running? No pounding on your feet and great exercise for the running muscles.

Best of luck with you big come back. I know you’ve got the determination to succeed.

Does this mean you need a 'sponsor' to help you if you relapse? And what does that mean in this case -- they you'd, like, try to run???? I am so in synch with you on the stationary bike. Amazing how a once-avoided machine is suddenly a magnet. That must be how the companies stay in business!

I'm with you on giving up the chocolate. I've been candy free over over a week now. Can't cut the coffee tho...It's my last vice.

Good luck to you.

hey isn't dark chocolate good for you? :) i think just a little of both chocolate and coffee is OK as long as you have plenty of calcium coming in otherwise... and tea *is* good there are some nice green teas out there, which are also good for ya, "they" say.

I am so happy to hear there's someone else who loves Excel like I do. Ahh, OCD.

I *heart* Excel, too:-) GL with your rehab, and with the other specialist.

I nearly spit out my coffee reading about the Raisinets and popcorn...gl giving the chocolate up, choc & coffee would be super hard for me, so you are my idol. GL!

i have tried the raisinet and popcorn thing and it is good! I sympathize with the coffee, caffeine is my friend, i am hoping the science world will produce it in IV form someday...glad you can at least bike! it will strengthen those secondary running muscles too!
