Changed Title....

K Health Club, is my gym. And they stink! [Note: after succes in what i was trying to do, I decided to remove the gyms name from this post. Hey, it's my blog and i can do what I want!!!]

And their customer service is non-existent. They owe me approximately $300 and keep telling me that "they don't have my money..." That their 3rd party billing company does. Who, by the way, when I called the 3rd party, has no record of me paying that money.

At any rate, the nice gentlemen (insert tone of sarcasm), actually the manager and I had a lengthy discussion today on the proper way to run a business and treat your customers. I told him that unfortunately since I had been treated so poorly that I would have to tell anyone who asked that they stink. And his comment was "really, in the scheme of things you are only one customer...do you really think you could shut our business down?" My reply was "no, I couldn't, but if you keep running the business the way you have (for the short 3 months that they have been open) then you will shut yourselves down. At any rate, it got me to thinking that I've lived in this town my entire life (almost) and I know ALOT of people. I'm what they call a Maconite. If I told 10 people and those 10 people told 2 people and those 20 people told just one person and those 20 people told 2 people, oh and then I sent out a mass email to the various running and cycling distribution lists that I have access to, plus wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper, plus reported my dissatisfaction with the Better Business Bureau, plus got my Mom and friend to tell all of their co-workers at the hospital how bad they stunk, oh and Troy said he would spend the $300 to have his truck lettered to say that gym Stinks, and then I put as the first line of a blog post "Changed: see above" so that when someone googled for their phone number they would see that at the top...well, how many people would this one person get the word out to?

It will be interesting to see...and when I meet with the owner on Monday morning, I will make sure that he is aware of how many people I do have access to.

Thanks for bearing with me. Now I'm going to try some Google combinations and see if it worked!!!

UPDATE: It didn't work out as planned based on my searches...dangit! But at least I got the word out...if any of you move to Macon, don't join this gym...unless of course, in the scheme of things $320 isn't that big of a deal (as I was told by the manager today...). Well, then rock on and don't worry about the possibility of your money being taken.

Have a GREAT weekend!!!!! I'm going to drink beer, because hey....I don't have any long runs to get up early for! Yeah for no long runs!

I'm familiar with Kinetix Health Club. Though new, yours is not the only problem I've heard about in Macon.

I signed a Kinetix contract with the understanding that I could cancel up to one week after they opened. After going to the facility twice BEFORE they opened and telling the company that I wanted to cancel, they did not process my request and have turned me over to a collection agency. I am getting a major run around from the "manager", Mark. Anyone know a way to go higher? I can't find a national listing. I am ready to file with BBB, take them to small claims court and post on the Internet. An ideas or similar stories?

Amy said...

Ben,

They aren't a national company. They are a local company, but the personal training is not local. At any rate, Mark Colours is the owner, not manager. But isn't it always easier to say "I'm the manager, it's out of my control...it's policy, etc?"

I took the name off of my site but am thinking about putting it back up because Mark told me that he would "work on" getting me a refund for my $235 early termination fee...and of course, I've heard nothing. I just put a call into him and if I don't hear anything this evening, the name is going back up. AND I will report them to the BBB. I suggest that you do as well. You can get my email address off of my profile page. Feel free to email me. I would love to make sure that they know that Macon does not welcome bad business owners!

I have tried numerous times to get the manager of Kinetix to call me regarding my cancellation with no response. I have faxed my letter of cancellation to the company who deducted the monthly fee from my checking account and they have now turned me over to a colletion agency since I had my bank stop payment on their deductions. I would strongly recommend NO ONE join that club!!!! Unless you buy time w/ a personal trainer, they do not have time for you.

your google scheme sort of worked. i googled the name of the health club i think you're trying to conceal and this post came up as the 2nd item.

Anonymous said...

yes, it appears your goggle experiment worked. i google'd the name of the club and here i am. sorry to hear about the bad experience some of you have had. thank you for warning me, though. recently moved to macon and searching for a gym to join. this one was close to me, but after reading these experiences, NO WAY!

Seems that Golds Gym is not the only gym in Macon screwing people. I had different, but equally bad situation with Mark Colors (?) at Kinetix. They tried to play the same, "we are two seperate companies", game with me. They gave me the run around and finally refunded my money after I paid my attorney to handle it for me. $375 dollars to hire an attorney to get my $270 back from a shitty business operating under the appearance of a swanky gym seemed a good ROI (return on investment). It's more about principle. Way to go Amy! People should not just 'take it' when they are shafted.

Seems to me The Medical Centers facilities are the best run in town. Both The Wellness Center and The Health Club are proffesional and well run, though, not the newest or flashiest. But, what's working out really about anyway. tt

Hey. I googled this gym's name and yours was the third in a list of hits, so it is working.

If your looking for professional trainers, meaning that's all they do, try Trainers on the corner of Northside and Wesleyan. The guys name is Rick Kahley and he's been training full time for years. Along with his brother Jeff and couple of others on staff, they can get your body looking, feeling and operating at an optimal level without a movie theatre treadmill center you'll try once in your life but pay for every month.

Where do we turn. I was a member of Golds and loved it. It was not state of the art but it was spacious and uncrowded. Someone please re-open.

I went to the gym on Hartley bridge today 35 a month and a 50 dollar activation fee. I told him I would do the 35 a month but not the 50.00 if I had to sign a contract. He refused and I walked.

I went to Arnold's on Thomaston and no one would come to the door or answer the phone. Duh must have too many members.

I called kinetix and asked them to give me the cost of a membership. They would not discuss on the phone I had to come in. That left me feeling like I was dealing with a sleazy used car dealer so they are off the list. If they have to make me come in before they will discuss a price then they must be shady.

As for the Wellness center. Good luck getting in a workout. I love free weights. There always seems to be 3 or 4 people standing around in the super small free weight area socializing. Even the staff. The other equipment is old and a lot of it is outdated. You can forget getting a piece of aerobic equipment during peak times unless you spend 30 mins standing in line.

I went by the connection to fitness on Forsyth. Out of business.

We need a gym on Zebulon rd

Holy Crap, I'm a member of Kinetix and had know idea it was run so poorly. I always thought Mark looked like a shady guy. I won't be renewing my contract after reading this. I'll make sure to pass the word around.

Thanks for the Blog - good info. I was planning on joining Kinetix as it is so close to my office, but now I am not so sure. I got to your site just by searching on google - and it was the first site to come up. The fact that Kinetix doesn't have there own site is also a deterent.

Hey Kim, Thanks for the feedback...because you clicked on the link to my blog it will stay at the top of Google's search engine one more day!

Now, if you'll go read the rest of my blog you'll see that I have a life. A very awesome one!

Thanks for the info..I was online looking for a gym to join and I certainly won't go to K. I will be sure to pass the word around. I will send an email out at work and it should make its way around the entire bibb co school system in about a week.....Nice retort to Kim, its so funny how the people who don't have a life are always telling everyone else to get one. She must be young you usually quit saying that by 9th or 10th grade.

Googled Kinetix and your site was first. You are getting the word out and I am thankful for it. I was planning on going there this afternoon to check it out, but decided that going for a run on my road would be less stressful than a badly run gym.

Amy, Guess they never heard of the "Rule of 55!" Pertaining to bad service in a restaurant, etc. a bad experience results in you, the customer, telling 55 of your friends and cohorts that you had a lousy time. Whereas if it was a good experience you will tell only 7 folks.

So, yes, Mr K manager, 55 will hurt your business, since we Maconites do like to spread the dirt, and those 55 will tell 55, and those 55...

I just joined Kinetix, and I regretted it after 2 weeks. But I had to sign a 2YEAR contract.
Im not sure why I thought it was a good idea, but I would recommend anyone else to not join.

uhh. i work at kinetix in Warner Robins. and this one is by far the better club. our staff is just excellent, and we all try our hardest to help with everyone's problems. and just cuz one person gives a bad review doesn't mean that this is a bad place. Kinetix is like my second home. Everyone is so friendly and has warm and caring hearts. so try it before you go being so negative. just cuz she had bad luck doesn't mean you will.

AMY - YOU ARE A CRACKHEAD, ALL THAT RUNNING FRIED YOUR BRAIN!

Amy said...

Hi Kinetix WR Manager,

Thanks for checking out my blog. I have not heard one negative thing about the gym in WR. My dealings were with your Macon branch. As a matter of fact, I heard that the manager for the one in WR was very professional and a super guy!

And yes, you are correct in saying that just because one person has a bad experience doesn't mean that all will. But, I have to say with numerous postings here (see complaints above), plus from the 2 dozen personal emails I've received, the problems are not just coming from one person's bad experience.

It's sad because if the owner at the time had of fully refunded my money like he promised he would, I would have completely deleted this post. Unfortunately, he didn't and the with the viral effect of the Internet, I feel it is my duty as an unsatisfied customer to let others know of my experience.

I have one other comment to make regarding this: every once in a while I get a posting from an employee at Kinetix, such as yours. Every time this has happened (and I think it's been 3 times now), it is followed up by a negative "anonymous" comment calling me a crackhead, telling me to get a life, etc. The postings are usually within an hour of each other, which leads me to believe that the negative comment is coming from someone else at Kinetix...I don't believe that it is such a coincidence that I wouldn't have a comment on this post for months and then all of a sudden have 2 on the very same day...I used to delete them, but now I believe I'm going to start keeping them (unless they contain foul language, of course) because I'd like for my readers to be able to form their own opinions on the matter.

Have a great day Kinetix WR Manager!

Amy

So crazy! Now someone else I know has a major issue with Kinetix. She, Leora, has moved back to freaking California. A little hard to commute to Macon for a quick workout.

Not sure what the problem is yet, but according to her, no one there is willing to work on solving it.

Same story I keep hearing.

you are not alone. Kinetix healthClub of Macon and its Owner both Stink and take advantage of people.

I joined the Kinetix in WR...so far so good, I'll keep you posted on the end results.

Well, I may be the first to complain about WR K. but I certainly won't be the last. I have gotten the same run around with the outsourcing of the billing and nobody can seem to get to the bottom of my problem. I signed up in April being promised aerobics classes by the end of May and a new location nearer my house by the Fall. Well neither have happened and I can't even get them to admit that they aren't offering the services they advertise (they are still advertising group fitness classes and a new location). I actually got a call form their billing company and she says she talked to them locally and they had no idea about a new location. funny, I had just received another deceptive flyer in the mail if that is the case! They are liars, flat out and as someone else said, likely smarmy used car salesmen.

I called to find out the monthly fee,and they wanted my name and number before transfering me to a salesman.I said. Oh no thanks and hung up.the salesman called and bombarded me.did I mention I didn't give my number, I SAID NO THANKS AND HUNG UP. WELL THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME.kinetix wr

Thanks for posting this and add this to the list of complaints regarding the WR location. Shady people with bad business practices is a recipe for disaster. I really wish I had asked others about this gym before I joined.

Mark at Kinetix took it upon himself to give out my PERSONAL information to a complete stranger just because he asked. I thought there were laws against establishments using our personal information except for gym purposes. You never have worry about me joining Kinetix again. I have saw the light.

Tremel Coleman said...

OMG Kinetix owes me money too! I paid the initial 39 fee to join but had to move out of the area for a job. I cancelled my services within the seven day period and was told that i'd be refunded my money in 10 business days. After 10 business days i gave em a call and then they told me 20 business days. @0 days came and went. I was then told that the 3rd party company handles the refunds but when i called them they said the club handles the refunds. By this time the desk clerk recognized my name and alerted the managers when i called because now when i call he always claims their in a meeting. Finally i went up there and a female manager told me it takes 60 days. Coincidentally 60 has passed and still no refund! If anyone knows of a higher authority i could call and explain how they have been giving me the run around that would be a reat help. Ive done a little research and found out that Kinetix is infamous for not paying their members/ex-members their money owed...

Thanks for this wonderful information. I received their flyer in the mail this weekend and was thinking of joining the WR branch (because it is closer to my house than going to the base)... but now I think I will pass and continuing driving the 22 miles round trip to use the base facilities. THANK YOU AMY!

I will share this information with everyone I know.

My daughter is a student at Mercer. She was told they were hiring people at their front desk. She went in for an interview and the scumbag told her they required all "new hires" to purchase a gym membership for 3 months during their "probationary" period. He talked her into giving him her credit card information. Once I found out, I told her to see the manager and complain. She did, he said no worries, all money would be refunded. Down payment of $40 is still not refunded and guess what?? They told her they'd call her back regarding her hours and a month later never have.. SCAM?? YA THINK???

Wow, thank goodness I saw this, I was thinking of joining as well for a month(they are running a $4 special, just to be closer to home for a while. I'll make sure I get the work out.

I joined Kinetix in Macon a little over a year ago. From the looks of it, it is a very nice gym, and they do offer very good classes. HOWEVER, if you like to get what you pay for, enjoy friendly staff, believe in customer service, etc., do NOT join this gym. The "managers" (i.e. sales leeches) will pressure you in every way they can think of to sign a life-forfeiting contract. Only after you "agree" on one set of terms and sign will they tell you the TRUTH about what/how you'll be paying. I went into this thinking I'd have a year contract, pay by month, $39/mo, relatively easy to cancel if I moved away. Instead, I have a 2-year, $59!!!/mo, sold-my-soul-to-the-devil contract. The "3rd party" is a company full of jerks or idiots that make it impossible to hold them to the terms of your contract. And the gym staff will lie to your face just to get you to stop asking questions about your contract...

Please don't join this gym. You will regret it, and you will not be happy. Go to the Wellness Center downtown, Train by Cain, ANYTHING ELSE but this gym (or any other "big name" gym that requires mega contracts...

Anonymous said...

Count me in on your Kinetix project. I got a coupon in the mail for 2 free months. I was told that I needed to sign the contract and give C card info as a formality. My free trial ended Dec.15th and I've tried since Nov.20 to cancel. They fired the sales person a month ago who signed me up and said "too bad", you have a contract. Now National Fitness (the 3rd party) keeps trying to charge my card and said they will send it to collections.
This is fraud. We have to do something.

Wayne said...

Amy,
Sorry, I forgot to mention...it is the WR store that is trying to rip me off. I went in tonight to see management only to be told that all the sales staff had been fired and staff from the Macon store was driving down to run the place.
The owner of Kinetix is a big secret....try asking.
I'm planning on filing with small claims next week as well as BBB and the media....they messed with the wrong consumer.
I'll send you an E.

WOW! I cannot believe all the people that this same thing has happened to. My husband and I signed up for memberships back in Nov. His is $50/month and mine, since it is an add on to his, is $39/month. Well, I went to work the day after I signed up and was told that we have a Trade Out for Kinetix (I work at a hotel in the area) and that I do not have to pay because we give them free hotel rooms quite often. Needless to say, I went in the next day and signed some form to cancel my membership after confirming that the Trade Out between my employer and Kinetix meant that I could work out there for free, too. I assumed (until now) that the flake at the front desk lost the form... Now, I believe it was deliberate on their part! I called up there several times asking for the manager who had signed us up. I was always told that he was in a meeting and that my husband and I would have to come up during our lunch hour to straighten everything out. That has not been an option because we BOTH work (evidently so we can pay Kinetix's scamming owners). I have since called customer service, and talked to someone who was going to "get it straightened out that day and call me by the end of the day"... I have sent a follow up email to her supposed email address to no avail. I have had about all I can take of it. You can rest assured that they won't be getting anymore free hotel rooms on the house from us. I hate to dog out what I used to think was the best gym in Macon for something I blamed as being an "honest mistake", but now that I have read so many similar stories, I know that it is not an honest mistake. Anyone else out there who they are STILL debiting out of your account every month? I vote we plan a protest outside of their Macon location. I have a lot of contacts with the local news stations that we could invite out to give them some "free publicity" LOL. I can hear the headlines now.... Let this be a lesson to you, Kinetix, you need to start focusing on CUSTOMER SERVICE instead of relying on shady business practices to make a profit.

Anonymous said...

Just moved back to Macon and I am in search of a gym. I saw Kinetix and thought about trying it out. After this post I don't plan on going. I've been down that road with the gym scams and I don't plan on doing anymore contracts. Thanks for saving me a wasted trip!!

Wow. Here I am in the market for a new gym and boom, you blew this one right off the list. There's no way I'm going there to get jipped. I need a new place. The one I'm at now (purple and yellow logo) isn't enough for me anymore. I'm ready to kick up my training and I've seen the staff tell people "you can't use the benches as steppers" and I've read stories of them asking people to cover their tanks because "they're intimidating" and that freaking alarm is nuts -_-. Anyone got a good gym that actually encourages you to be fit?
